History and Meaning:
Inspired by the legend of Nazinha do Murutucú, this pendant harks back to an 18th-century tale when the peasant Plácido found a small image of Our Lady of Nazareth on the banks of the Murutucú River in Belém. The image would mysteriously return to the same spot even after being taken to Plácido’s home. This phenomenon repeated until, finally, the image was moved to the Government Palace. A chapel was built at the site of the apparition, which later became the magnificent Basilica of Nazareth, one of the most iconic symbols of Amazonian spirituality.
